In this project, we were given a brief by a small jewelry store to create an experience of living within luxury. We decided to flip the brief upside down and conceptualize the idea of living within a diamond, created using the cheapest materials found in the industrial world. We formulated the diamond-like shape with recycled steel piping collected from discarded construction sites and clad the entire structure with cling film, commonly found in kitchens and households around the world.
Due to the unique glossiness and plastic nature of cling film, the adaptation of the skin over the structure is extremely easy. Under particular sunlight, the glimmer of the plastic film resembles a jewellery-like structure from afar. Inside, we have placed furniture entirely made from high-density recycled Styrofoam components.
Within this house, there will be an abundance of jewellery displays. We aim to create a dichotomy of luxury products against a sustainable and recycled backdrop, as the company is moving towards sustainability within luxury jewellery manufacturing. We want the audience to see the design from afar, resembling a precious stone, yet all elements are made from recycled and economical materials.
