Inspired by the delicate geometry of a leaf, FOGLIA is conceived as an illumination sculpture rather than a conventional lamp. Integrated within its structure are magnetically interchangeable air-purification screens, allowing the object to be endlessly recomposed. In this sense, FOGLIA invites its owner to assume the role of architect—continuously reshaping light, form, and atmosphere within the space.

FOGLIA—Italian for leaf—is the inaugural creation of Creazione SUGO, marking the conceptual origin of the studio’s design language. Its genesis dates back more than a decade, when founder Kevin Chu, while backpacking through central Thailand, became mesmerized by the shifting colours of a banana leaf under changing daylight. The subtle transformation of surface, light, and translucency sparked the idea of translating this fleeting natural phenomenon into a luminous object.

The first prototype emerged in 2011, embodying Creazione SUGO’s early exploration of light as both sculpture and environmental device. After years of experimentation, the design reached maturity in 2018 with the introduction of the world’s first magnetic interchangeable acrylic screen system, developed in the studio’s Italian research laboratory. This innovation transformed FOGLIA into a highly adaptable platform where lighting, sculpture, and environmental technology coexist.

Among its most refined interpretations is the LIBELLULA limited edition, inspired by the intricate lattice of a dragonfly’s wing. Each acrylic screen is laser-engraved over a three-hour process, generating delicate CAD-derived geometries that capture and diffuse indirect light. The resulting luminous patterns appear to float weightlessly in space, turning FOGLIA into a quietly kinetic presence—an object that not only illuminates a room, but subtly transforms the atmosphere that surrounds it.
