DB Logistica Italy
Shanghai, China

Commissioned by DB Logistica, a prominent Italian freight forwarding company with strong operational links between Europe and Asia, we were invited to design a modest exhibition pavilion for the Shanghai Trade Development Show. The allocated space was limited and the budget equally restrained, conditions that required a careful and disciplined design approach rather than grand gestures.
Instead of pursuing a conventional trade-fair booth filled with graphics and promotional surfaces, we sought to translate the essence of logistics into a spatial gesture. The sea—eternal carrier of goods, cultures, and economies—became our point of departure. From this idea emerged a single fluid wave, an abstract curvature that gently folded into the pavilion, suggesting both movement and continuity.
The structure formed a welcoming cavity within the booth, allowing visitors to step inside the wave itself. Here, conversations about trade routes, shipping networks, and business opportunities unfolded within a spatial metaphor of maritime exchange. Constructed through a lightweight overlay framework, the installation discreetly integrated artificial lighting within its surface, eliminating the need for costly external spotlights while creating a soft and immersive glow.
The intervention was intentionally minimal. Branding was reduced to the essential, allowing the architecture to act as the primary communicator. In an environment typically dominated by heavily commercialized stands, the pavilion stood apart through its quiet, sculptural presence.
To our surprise—and delight—the project received the Best Design Booth Award at the exhibition that year. For a relatively small company presenting within a vast international trade fair, the recognition reaffirmed our belief that even under strict constraints, thoughtful design can transform the most ordinary commercial setting into a moment of spatial poetry.
