Nestled in the dense urban fabric of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, the SOLA Bar continues our long-standing fascination with the choreography of light, shadow, and texture.

To soften the atmosphere of a typical nightlife interior, we introduced a series of tactile architectural panels. Around ten large modules—each measuring roughly 1.5 by 2.5 meters—were constructed with curved corner boxes placed in irregular compositions, then wrapped in stretched fabric membranes. These gently bulging surfaces invite touch, transforming the walls into soft landscapes against which cocktails and conversations unfold.

With only a single dominant window filtering daylight into the space, the panels were carefully oriented so that shadows drift laterally across them, producing a subtle theatricality as light travels from left to right.

Every piece of furniture was custom designed for the environment, while the door handles were formed from fallen branches collected during hiking trips in Hong Kong—small fragments of wilderness inserted into the urban night. In one corner, a field of recycled PVC pipes rises in random clusters, evoking a bamboo grove while scattering intricate shadows throughout the room.

As in our earlier lounge project MOVE, the interior becomes a quiet chess match between light and darkness, softness and rigidity—an exploration of how contrasting materials can animate a space long after the sun has set.
