Clouds have no fixed geometry. They drift, dissolve, and reform endlessly—shapes in perpetual transition. Cloudi was conceived as a lighting sculpture that captures this elusive condition of the sky. Meticulously constructed as an optical illusion, the object transforms as one moves around it. Layers of perforated metal panels are superimposed, their shifting alignment altering the perceived form, while the panels themselves quietly purify the surrounding air.

The idea emerged during a languid summer afternoon on an Italian beach, when Creazione SUGO founders Kevin and Giulia rested beneath drifting clusters of clouds. Observing how light filtered through their soft masses, they imagined translating that fleeting phenomenon into a spatial object. Rather than designing a lamp that merely illuminates, they sought to create a system that produces both light and shade—a subtle duality echoing the atmosphere of the sky.

Cloudi achieves this through a precise layering of laser-cut metal panels encased within an LED light structure. As light passes through the perforations, the overlapping geometries distort perspective, generating a gentle choreography of shadows and movement. The piece appears to shift, dissolve, and reform—an architectural mirage suspended in space.

Like the clouds that inspired it, Cloudi is never entirely still. It transforms with the viewer’s movement, filling the interior with a quiet sense of evolution. Conceived as a companion to Creazione SUGO’s RAIN lamp, the two works may coexist as a poetic installation—an interior sky where vapor and rainfall meet in luminous form.
